Michelle Dodier –USPTA

Director of Tennis

Michelle has been the Head Professional and Director of Tennis at The Club At Sonterra since 2002. Formerly, she was the Director of Tennis at Hunters Creek Racquet Club from 1986 to 2002 and the Director of Tennis at Canyon Creek Country Club from 1980 to 1986. Michelle is a former high school and college standout and has been ranked in the top five singles, doubles and mixed doubles in Texas. She has represented Texas in many national doubles events. Michelle has coached hundreds of juniors and adults in her forty years, as well as taken many USTA teams to the Sectional or National tournaments. Michelle was voted Outstanding Woman for 1992 (Express News). She was the founder and director of Alamo City Tennis (A.C.T.), a ladies city tennis league of over 800 players. She received the Community Service Award from the San Antonio Tennis Association. As Director of Tennis at Sonterra, she has secured a highly qualified group of 7 full time professionals and six part time assistants who, together with an excellent pro shop staff, create activities for more than 700 families. Michelle is a member of the Wilson and Adidas Advisory Staff.

Mike Thatcher -USPTA

Head Tennis Professional/Men's League Coordinator

Before coming to Sonterra in September 2006, Mike had been the Director of Tennis at the McAllen Country Club for 17 years. While there he was the Director of a $15,000.00 USTA Men’s Pro Circuit Tournament. Mike is USPTA certified as well as USRSA Racquet Stringing certified. He works with many USTA teams and all levels of junior and adult players. Under his direction the Ladies Beginner/Advanced Beginner program has introduced numerous players to all levels of the game. Mike is also men’s league coordinator along with other adult programming. He graduated from St. Ambrose University in Iowa with majors in Marketing and Finance and an Economics minor. He is a member of the Wilson Advisory Staff.


Scott Works-USPTA

Senior Staff Professional/Men's League Coordinator

Scott Works has been a tennis professional here at Sonterra since 2005. In that time, he has developed a strong following of adults and juniors and developed an active adult Singles Ladder. Scott brings to Sonterra a vast amount of tennis experience. He played his college tennis at UTSA graduating with a degree in Marketing. He has played competitive tennis throughout his career and taught at Green Tree Racquet Club, T Bar M in Dallas and Thousand Oaks Racquet Club before finding his home here at Sonterra. Scott's titles are many, having been ranked Nationally #2 in Men’s Doubles, but his most prestigious title is winning the World’s Cup in Men’s 45 Doubles in Turkey in 2013. Scott is a member of the Prince Advisory Staff.


Oleg Dyachenko—USPTA

Staff Professional

Oleg has been a tennis professional here at Sonterra since 2010. His career began in his home country of Ukraine where he won numerous tournaments throughout USSR and the Ukraine. He served as the assistant head coach of the Ukrainian Air Force tennis team. He played competitively and coached professionally in Eastern and Western Europe and throughout the United States. Oleg has formal education from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio where he also served as the UIW men’s tennis team captain and played #1 in both singles and doubles. Oleg is a member of the Head Advisory Staff.


Joshua Wiedenfeld USPTA/USPTR

Staff Professional/Director of Junior Program

Josh has come back to San Antonio after a nine year tennis career in Kansas City, Missouri and has taken the helm of our junior program. He is responsible for all junior programming and holds certifications from the USPTA, USPTR and the USTA in high performance as well as 10 & under tennis. Josh is no stranger to San Antonio as he graduated from Clark High School and his family still lives here. He will be teaching all levels of adults and juniors and will be conducting special events for the junior program. Josh is a member of the Babolat Advisory Staff.


Celine Vanweydeveld --USPTA

Staff Tennis Professional

Celine comes to Sonterra with excellent credentials. She was born in Belgium and played her college tennis at the University of Louisiana at #1. Celine has taught tennis in Connecticut at the Roton Point Tennis Club and coached the men’s and women’s tennis team at Drexel University. She has played and won numerous tournaments in Spain, Belgium, France and the USA. Celine is fluent in French, Spanish, English and Swaeli.


Christy Godwin

Tennis Pro Shop Manager

Christy was born in Tyler Texas and attended Tyler Junior College. She came to San Antonio via marriage to her tennis playing husband. Christy has two super tennis playing kids. Having been in the tennis business for seventeen years with her husband --running a shop was an easy transition for her. Christy worked for six years as a pre-school teacher and was a full time tennis parent before coming to Sonterra. Her knowledge of the sport comes from her many years of involvement with her husband's tennis business.


Laurie Blakey

Ladies League Coordinator/ Tennis Member Relations

Laurie Blakey was born in San Antonio and is the mother of two tennis playing children. After graduating from Ole Miss she came back to San Antonio and started playing tennis again in 2009. Her experience in tennis comes from playing and captaining many teams. A huge element of this job is organizational skills, people skills and love of the game of tennis—Laurie has all this. Laurie loves fashion so she is a great addition when it comes to assisting in the buying process for our tennis shop.


Janiss Sorrell

Shop Associate/Stringer

Janiss has worked at Sonterra for 18 years and has been our Master stringer as well as assisting many a member behind the counter. Before coming to Sonterra Janiss worked at McFarlin Tennis Center and Active Sportswear Outlet. With her many years in the retail end of the business and also playing for 40 years, Sonterra’s position was a perfect fit for her. Everyone knows Janiss and Janiss knows everyone.
